The objective of this project is to explore the characteristics of inertial systems using the MTx Motion Tracker device for indoor geolocation. We develop a testbed for performance evaluations to determine the precision of the MTx Motion Tracker. This test bed is based on conducted experiments carried out to evaluate the operation of the device. In each experiment, we collect raw acceleration and relative angles from the device and implemented our algorithms through MATLAB software to evaluate its performance.
To evaluate the US Patent and Trademark Office's current telework program, the Patent Hoteling Program, and make recommendations on its future, our team analyzed data collected by the USPTO and researched similar programs at other public and private companies. From our research and analysis we developed a set of recommendations to enable the future expansion of the PHP, including the structure of a pilot program and identifying the potential risks involved with this expansion.
Optimizing public transit is an important issue in the 21st century. This research project was focused on the run time performance of the Ride On bus system in Montgomery County, MD. Through a focus group, field observations, and interviews we were able to create a set of comprehensive recommendations targeting addressable issues such as bus boarding, traffic signal idle time, and scheduling. Besides recommending common solutions, such as smartcards and transit signal prioritization, we developed an innovative scheduling paradigm.
This project was sponsored by the National Association of State Fire Marshals to address the issue of fire safety in green buildings. We researched design characteristics of green buildings, awareness of fire safety, awareness of green building practices, and the ways that green building can promote or hinder fire safety. From this we developed recommendations focused on education of the fire services, as well as increased communication between fire officials and those involved in promoting the practice of green building.
